Anna-Lena Friedsam began playing tennis on the ITF Circuit in 2009. In 2012, she won her first title in Slovenia at the Info and Open. In 2013, she played in her first WTA main-draw tournament as a wild-card entry at the Nürnberger Versicherungscup.

In 2016, she had her best Grand Slam success by making it to the fourth round of the Australian Open. She lost in a close match to Agnieszka Radwanska there.
